Recycled Materials as a Key Element for Blown Film Extrusion in Latin America_

The demand for recycling and plastic extrusion machinery in Latin America has seen a significant rise. With the increased adoption of sustainable processes and changing industry regulations, more producers are choosing POLYSTAR machines to align their products with market requirements. POLYSTAR has become a reliable partner for producers and recyclers of post-industrial and post-consumer waste in the region.

In countries like Ecuador, rigorous policies have been established to regulate the production of plastic products, including strict laws with quotas for recycled materials that producers must incorporate into their products. For instance, t-shirt bags must contain at least 60% recycled materials. In other countries such as Chile and Argentina, active promotion of recycling and more demanding regulations on the use of certain materials in production are underway.

Plastic pellets made of recycled materials can be used for different applications, gaining popularity as a primary material in blown film extrusion, recycled materials can be employed up to 100% in film production. Multiple producers in Latin America and around the world currently implement processes for reusing all their post-industrial plastic waste in plastic film extrusion processes and even incorporate recycled materials from post-consumer waste.

Here are some of the Blown Film Machines POLYSTAR has developed to help different companies comply with sustainability standards and the new regulations for plastic film production:

Three-Layer Blown Film Machines - ABA

ABA co-extrusion  has become the favorite solution of many plastic film manufacturers, as it helps them obtain a final product with a higher resistance for films of the same thickness using recycled materials and calcium carbonate. Co-extrusion is commonly used by manufacturers who want to produce more resistant film or require their products to have more strength and durability.

These machines produce a film made of a three-layer ABA structure using two different screws. The B screw feeds material to the inner layer of the film, which can make up to 75% of the film. Many producers use this method to introduce a higher percentage of recycled materials into their products, either exclusively in layer B or in both A&B layers.

Single-Layer Blown Film Machines

Monolayer blown film machines use the most conventional blown film extrusion process. They are commonly used for a wide variety of products. Monolayer films can be made from 100% recycled materials and are used for the majority of general film applications.

The key to using a high percentage of recycled materials in the blown film extrusion process lies in the type of machine used for production. POLYSTAR has extensive experience in the production of plastic film made from purely recycled materials. Thanks to the special design of the machine, it ensures the materials are properly melted, mixed, and blown to produce quality plastic film made of recycled materials.
